Venturing to Lake Tahoe next weekend? While it can be great to watch sports from the comfort of your vacation rental, sometimes you’ll want to join in the camaraderie of a local bar, brewery or tavern. We put together some of our favorite establishments to watch the Super Bowl — or any big game or sporting event — from Truckee to Tahoe City. The list is based on atmosphere, food quality, and, of course, happy hour specials.
TRUCKEE SPORTS BARS
5050 Brewing Company
5050, an award-winning local brewery, is open daily and features a significant menu — including chimichurri steak fries and locally sourced salads. They also offer over 10+ of their delicious beers on tap daily. Featuring multiple TVs playing in the bar as well as a pull-down large projection screen for big sporting events (like the Super Bowl).
Blue Coyote Bar and Grill
With 24 flatscreen HDTVs, you can bet your game is playing at the Blue Coyote Bar in Truckee. Between arcade games for kids and a full bar with 13 beers on tap, everyone in the family is sure to leave the Blue Coyote in a good mood. Can’t forget about the extensive menu! — Truckee style wings, burgers, salads, cheesesteaks, pizza, a kid’s menu, and more.
KINGS BEACH SPORTS BARS
Caliente
Caliente Tahoe is in Kings Beach and is famous for their Chupacabra margarita — it's available in 25-ounce size (for when the game goes into overtime). While the Cantina has great outdoor dining, the TVs are located inside at the bar. There's a kid’s menu available.
The Grid Bar and Grill
The Grid is a classic sports bar on the North Shore of Lake Tahoe. Everyone will love the full menu, especially certified Angus burgers. They have multiple TVs placed around the bar, including outside where you can sit by the fireplaces to watch the football games.
TAHOE CITY SPORTS BARS
Tahoe Tap Haus
This family-friendly tap house is the perfect place in Tahoe City to grab a beer and a bite. Located in the heart of Tahoe City, you can enjoy a day of shopping or catch a movie followed by a delicious dinner and drink while watching the football game. The Tahoe Tap Haus has 16 taps and about half are dedicated to breweries within 100 miles.
Fat Cat Bar & Grill
Tahoe locals love Fat Cat for its locally sourced ingredients (like Truckee Sourdough bread), fresh-cut fries, and unbeatable atmosphere. They even use a non-GMO sunflower oil for the deep fryer.
Bridgetender Tavern & Grill
Located next to the Tahoe City Dam on the Truckee River, “The BT” has been open in its rustic location since 1977. Bridgetender Tavern is open for breakfast Friday to Sunday, and the kitchen stays open late most nights. The menu features appetizers, sandwiches and burgers, burritos and tacos, and the “best bloody mary in Lake Tahoe.”
CARNELIAN BAY SPORTS BARS
Gar Woods
Gar Woods is the sister restaurant to Caliente and has its own special cocktail – the Wet Woody, which uses run in a mix of slushy drinks. With a great view of Lake Tahoe (especially for sunsets) and an unbeatable menu, you will not be disappointed to catch a game at this restaurant.
CB’s Bistro
This family-friendly Carnelian Bay restaurant features a wide variety menu, 5 TVs with surround sound, and games for the kiddos. The food is made with the freshest ingredients and the locals are always friendly. You can catch Happy Hour Specials during games on Monday, Thursday, and Sunday.
We hope to see all of you sports fans in Tahoe this winter!
