This year The Great Ski Race will offer two course choices! The historical 26km (16.2 miles) loop around Mt Watson: up to Soup Station 1, right (east) on the 73 road (Fiberboard Fwy) to 4 Corners, down the 74 road back to Carnelian Bay and onto the Blue Trail at TXC. New for 2025 will be a shorter 10km course that will stay inside Tahoe Cross Country. Register for either course on Race Roster!

The Great Ski Race® is the main fund raising event for the Tahoe Nordic Search & Rescue Team, a non-profit all-volunteer organization. Team members, along with community supporters, organize The Great Ski Race®, which continues to be one of the largest Nordic ski races west of the Mississippi. Race proceeds are used primarily to purchase equipment for the Team, and to support winter survival and avalanche education programs sponsored and conducted by the Team.

Wave Start: The start field is divided into waves; wave 1 starts at 9:00AM for the 26km course, while the 10km course start is 9:25AM. Subsequent waves start at 3 minute intervals after that. Please be on the snow and ready to ski 15 minutes before the start of your race, regardless of which wave you are in!

Finish: The party at the end is famous. The food and beer at the end of the trail, outside the Tahoe Cross Country Center, are served in a festive atmosphere that includes live music and dancing in what, if you’re lucky, will be a day of warm Sierra sunshine. Best of all, the entire shindig is a benefit for an incredibly deserving organization, the Tahoe Nordic Search and Rescue Team.
