Tahoe Top Tens

While summer and winter are the obvious times to visit Lake Tahoe for many travelers, most locals will admit that Fall might actually be the PERFECT time to experience the best of Tahoe. The crowds have thinned with the waning daylight, but the temperatures are perfect for getting outdoors and really discovering the area. Need a little more incentive? Here is our list of the top 10 Reasons to Visit this Fall:

1.  Fall Colors

It’s that time of year when the Aspen leaves turn from green to incredible colors of gold, orange, & red! Whether you're looking for a challenging hike that rewards you with a variety of fall hues, or an easy walk to a viewpoint and picnic area, North Lake Tahoe has you covered. Check out some of our favorite leaf-peeping locales

2.  Mountain Biking

With cooler temperatures and fewer crowds, there is no better time to bike in the Tahoe area. Whether you are looking for scenic cross-country terrain or exhilarating downhill trails, North Lake Tahoe and Truckee have it all when it comes to mountain biking.

3.  The Food

No longer does a trip to the Sierras mean choosing between mediocre slopeside eats or corner diners. North Lake Tahoe and Truckee are becoming increasingly recognized for innovative cuisine, craft beer and cocktails, and locally roasted coffee. Take a look at the North Lake Tahoe Chamber's recommendations for Fall Flavors or view our Dining Guide for more inspiration.

4.  Amazing Weather

Tahoe in the fall means cool mornings give way to warm afternoons, the sky is blue and the water is often warmer than it was in July. Slightly cooler temperatures are ideal for tackling those longer hikes and rides, and even your canine companion will appreciate a break from the summer heat.

5.  Time to Relax, Rejuvenate and Restore

Fall is a season of rejuvenation and renewal, and what better place for it than the shores, peaks, and historic towns of North Lake Tahoe? From local yoga classes and spas to finding peace and tranquility in on a simple scenic hike. Tahoe is just what the doctor ordered to help you unwind and escape your daily busy life.

6.  Great time to Hike or Climb

With fewer visitors, trails are wide open, and North Lake Tahoe and Truckee are abundant with hiking perfect for all ages and skill levels. Looking for a little bit more excitement? Tahoe also boasts some of the areas best rock climbing as well. Click here for some favorite North Lake Tahoe climbing spots!

7.  Cruises on the Lake

Get a different perspective of Lake Tahoe from on the water. Enjoy daily cruises aboard the Tahoe Gal, a large paddlewheel vessel berthed in Tahoe City. Great opportunities to tour Emerald Bay with Daytime Scenic Lunch Cruises.

8.  Go Fishing!

As water temperatures drop, it brings in an influx of Rainbow trout to the shallow waters to feed. Fall is the perfect time to go fishing with the family, as you will most likely catch a good amount of Rainbows and even some Mackinaw on Lake Tahoe.

9.  Reduced Tahoe Vacation Rental Rates

What’s better than sneaking away for a long weekend to enjoy the last warm days of the year? Saving a bundle while you do it! Off-season rates are in full effect at all of our North Lake Tahoe home rentals, so find your perfect place and don't miss out on these great deals!

10. You’re on Tahoe Time

Tahoe is a great place to visit year-round, but there’s something very special about the fall when the pace is more relaxed and much less hectic. Traffic is no longer an issue like it can be in the summer, and getting into parking areas for sightseeing, trailheads, and even popular restaurants is a breeze. Of course, if you’re really on Tahoe time, you may choose to simply do nothing at all….which we also wholeheartedly recommend.
