ABOUT THE AREA
Olympic Valley is home to Palisades Tahoe (formerly Squaw/Alpine), one of the largest ski areas in North Lake Tahoe and the host of the 1960 Winter Olympics. With 6,000 skiable acres, 43 chairlifts, and the only funitel in the U.S., Palisades Tahoe is a dream destination for skiers and snowboarders alike. Perfectly located between Truckee and North Lake Tahoe, you’re just minutes away from everything the region has to offer.

The benefits of staying in Olympic Valley are unbeatable. Skip the traffic and parking headaches by taking advantage of the Mountaineer Door-to-Door Ski Shuttle, which brings you right to the slopes. Beyond skiing, the area offers a variety of winter activities, including ice skating, snow tubing, cross-country skiing, and snowshoeing. The Village at Palisades Tahoe provides an array of dining, après options, retail shops, and even a yoga studio for some post-ski relaxation. Enjoy a seamless connection to Alpine Meadows via the 16-minute gondola ride, which links 6,000 acres of world-class terrain, connecting The Village, Alpine Lodge, and the iconic KT-22.

This winter, take full advantage of your Palisades getaway with our exclusive offer! Book with us and enjoy discounted lift tickets, lessons, and more, courtesy of our partnership with Palisades Tahoe. Tickets are available for midweek, weekend, and holiday visits based on your travel dates.

Olympic Valley is just as spectacular in summer. Located at the base of Palisades Tahoe, you can play a round at the Links Golf Course or bike along the scenic Truckee River Trail. The Village offers guided hikes and the chance to conquer the Tahoe Via Ferrata. Take the Tram to High Camp for roller skating, disc golf, or geocaching, and stop by Granite Bistro for lunch and stunning Sierra Mountain views at 8,400 feet.

For hiking enthusiasts, the Shirley Canyon Trail is a must-do, with waterfalls, granite boulders, wildflowers, and the picturesque Shirley Lake. After a 2,000-foot elevation gain, a complimentary Tram ride brings you back to the Village. And when you're ready for a day at the lake, sandy beaches are just 15 minutes from your door, offering the perfect summer retreat.

Comfortable home in spectacular setting. Easy layout for families, with everything you need in the kitchen. We have visited Bullshead many times and will be back. We noticed the Internet service is much improved compared to our last visit at the end of 2019 -- Zoom work calls were no problem.

The house was absolutely beautiful. The grounds were as well. The oven/stove was a bit of an issue due to the fact we couldn't get it lit. Come to find out, a circuit had blown and that's why the igniters wouldn't work. The bathroom lightening made it challenging to apply makeup. The stone flooring in two of the showers were rough on the feet....too tumbled. With that said, it was a great house and we had a wonderful time.

Manager's Response

Thank you so much for your kind review Darlene, we are so pleased that you enjoyed the home! While the oven can be tricky, we have since added detailed instructions on how it operates for future guests.

Our group of friends had a fantastic time staying at the Bullshead Lodge. The kitchen was spacious with an inviting open dining area. The bedrooms and bathrooms were all spectacular. Best of all were the sitting areas and views looking out to the river. We spent several days sitting out in the river and watching rafters float by.

We loved this house! We stayed here with another family - a total of 9 people: 4 adults and 5 teenagers. The house is well-stocked, clean and laid out perfectly for a very nice stay. It’s right in between Truckee and Tahoe City which made for a perfect location to visit both areas convenient. The views are gorgeous and the decor is tasteful. We all Highly recommend!

Another amazing trip!

Our family had a fantastic stay at Bullshead. We had visited the home many years ago and were happy that it is still top quality. You can’t beat the layout and privacy of the spot. Everything is very well equipped and organized for winter fun — sleds, amazing hot tub, unending firewood. We will be back next year!

Bullshead Lodge is beautifully located, exceptionally spacious and comfortable. The views are awesome, we enjoyed morning coffee on the deck daily. The lawn area is perfect for games and relaxing and the Truckee River is close for fishing or simply enjoying the view. The property management is attentive and helpful and we definitely look forward to returning.

Everything about our experience at Bullshead was absolutely outstanding. The house is ideal for multiple families, the backyard is spectacular and perfect for kids. The service and communication was outstanding...we've already booked the house again for the following year. Thank you Tahoe Getaways...you exceeded our expectations!

Our family met in Squaw Valley for a vacation. The week found us riding bikes, climbing rocks, sailing boats, and hiking to amazing views. Bullshead Lodge provided the perfect place to reconvene at the end of the day and share our adventures over dinner around the large dining table. The kitchen was perfect for cooking! The bedrooms and baths provided comfort and a place to recharge our batteries. We took advantage of the Truckee River and enjoyed reading with our toes in the river. Summer in Squaw Valley is not to be missed and Bullshead Lodge is the perfect the place to make that happen.

We stayed over Christmas & New Years with our family. The house and it’s surroundings were great, fully meeting our expectations based on the description and pictures we’d seen. Sledding at Pole Creek trailhead was an unexpected bonus, in addition to skiing at Squaw, building snowmen by the Truckee River in the backyard, etc. The home’s furnishings and layout were just right, and we especially enjoyed sitting by the fire in the den. Tahoe Getaways was very responsive to all our needs (thanks Nicole). Our only suggestion would be to improve the oven, which was a little bit problematic, though we were able to make it work okay with some effort. The Wifi was slow, but that had been explained before we rented. Thanks for a great vacation!!

Manager's Response

Thank you so much for the kind words. We loved hosting you over the holidays and we can't wait to do so again!

We rented this house based on my fathers needs as he uses a walker. Was told the front/side entrance had two small steps which was fine. Once we entered the house we discovered there were 2 full size steps to get into the main part if the house. There were no hand rails making it extremely difficult for my father to manuever these steps without the assistance of three adults. Otherwise the house was great. FYI the down stairs does tend to be quite a bit cooler from the rest of the house.

We had a birthday weekend with lots of friends, hiking, cooking, and laughing. The house was magical- gracious and well appointed- with generous open spaces for gathering and hanging out. Perfectly fitted for its natural surroundings, this property is elegant and mountain comfortable all at once. It was clean, well organized, and true to the descriptions on the website. The managers were responsive and helped us with our requests quickly.

Bullshead Lodge was amazing ! The description and photos were accurate but it was even better than we thought. The property was clean and well maintained,in the main . at first I was disappointed with hearing the road noise, but after 2 days , I got used to it, and imagined it was the sound of the river...
The age range went from 70 to 2 , including 2 teenagers , and it worked really well ,due to the layout of the Lodge ( tons of space )
The highlights were floating in the river nearby, cycling along the river to Tahoe City , and kayaking at Sugar Pine National forest. i would definitely recommend Bullsland Lodge.

Overall a very impressive house with loads of space. Easily sleeps the people it says on the website. Kids had a fabulous time with going on sleigh rides in the back. Facilities and service of the house also worked well. Good hot water, nice hot tub, functional kitchen, clean beds. Great. The only thing I would have wished for was a better wifi connection as this was patchy at best. Maybe it's due to the landline going in and the area. But apart from that a great place to stay.

Manager's Response

Thank you for this helpful review. Future renters, please take note, as wireless internet service is not comparable to city speeds.

The house was in impeccable condition. We really enjoyed our stay and the amenities the house has to offer was perfect for our reunion. If I had to change anything, I think they need to work on the internt connection. It was non existent. Getting a cellular signal was already difficult but not having internet made things difficult if people needed to call or work during the stay. The master bedroom shower's water temperature would fluctuate during showers but that's a minor inconvenience. Overall, the house was wonderful. And the TRP people are awesome folks to deal with! Just remember the entrance to the driveway is right next to the 55mph speed limit sign. That's the only way you will find it in the evening!

Our family enjoyed staying at Bullshead. Unfortunately the house wasn't that clean - and the water needed mineral treatment as it clouded up the glassware, silverware, etc making it unappealing to use. Some of the appliances weren't working well - dishwashers, grill, broken lamp. The fridge and freezer were very dirty and needed a good scrub. Would have liked more towels. We'd consider coming back but would require a spotless clean house to do so.
Best Tahoe summer place

I had stayed at the Bullshead several times in the past, and when learning that my family from Norway was coming to visit me in California I could not think of any better place to take them than a summer week in Tahoe at the Bullshead lodge. The lodge boasts large windows making it the perfect summer cabin offering lots of sun and light whether you rest inside or spend the lazy summer days at the large deck in the back of the lodge. Truckee River is flowing by just some few feet away from the large sun deck patio, and the entire family went for walks along the river and even taking a swim in the slow running cool waters. We had another family visiting us for a few nights that had an infant, and the layout of the lodge makes it easy to get privacy and quietness in the top floor level of the lodge even when there are lots of energetic kids running around on the main floor. The location of the house makes it easy to get over to Squaw valley and the beaches of Lake Tahoe; we had a day at Squaw High Camp in the swimming pool and a beach day at Lake Tahoe, in addition to the must-do Truckee River rafting, which ended just a few miles away from the sun deck at the Bullshead Lodge. I and my Norwegian family had a week of a lifetime at Bullshead Lodge.

Second Family Trip to Bullshead Lodge - Perfect!

We had stayed at Bullshead Lodge with my family three winters ago and were very excited to be able to return this past winter. The location is terrific with great proximity to Squaw Valley and just a short drive to either Truckee or Tahoe City. The house was in just as good of condition as it was three years ago - in fact, there were even a few upgrades. The weather was great and the kids enjoyed hiking by the river and sledding in the woods. The owner even went out of their way to provide a "Pack 'n Play" crib as well as a booster seat for our one year old. We had everything we could've asked for to have a great experience and look forward to returning again in the future!

We really loved the house. The layout was perfect for the 4 families, especially the common space. Everything was clean and well appointed. Our only issues were the super slow internet, our inability to order movies on demand (need the owners name for directv), the lack of hot water for a house of this size, and the day the workers arrived to cut stone and repair the flagstone stairs--they were there all day. I would rent the house again in a heartbeat, even given the few challenges above.

Overall, the property is gorgeous! The two families staying there had no problems with bathroom coordination, kitchen use, ect... Bedding was comfortable along with other amenities. Kitchenware's are in dire need of updating as some didn't work and were in poor condition. Wouldn't recommend this property for traveling with toddlers as there are many stairs and other areas requiring constant attention. Perfect for children 5+.

Beautiful house with plenty of room for our family. The grandkids loved the river especially after we were told the path to take. Biggest complaint was not being informed beforehand that there was NO air conditioning. We are from Texas but trying to sleep in 85 degree weather until it cooled off at midnight wasn't fun. I would have appreciated knowing before I rented the house of this condition.

With 9 adults and 4 children under the age of 10, I was admittedly apprehensive about staying under the same roof but our weekend could not have gone more perfectly. The house was lovely, very well maintained, and had plenty of living (and more importantly, breathing) space for all. The kids stayed downstairs in the bunks, where they happily watched movies or played most of the time. The adult accommodations were equally perfect, allowing for everyone to have a comfortable room with a beautiful view. The living room was cozy and welcoming at the end of a day of skiing, as was the hot tub, which we enjoyed every night! Squaw Resort is a short drive, even allowing us to come home for lunch one of the days. And the kitchen is nothing short of spectacular with tons of counter space, two sinks, two dish washers and a huge fridge and wine cooler to accommodate lots of food. We hired a chef to prepare meals in advance and just heated them at night. Definitely the way to go after a long day, still allowing for a great family setting around the large dining room table. Truly a wonderful weekend in a very comfortable, relaxing and beautiful setting.

Two notes to the property management: we had trouble lighting the stove. After persistence we figured it out, but it may be something to look at. Also, none of the power outlets in the master bedroom worked. We could not find a breaker box and just used outlets elsewhere in the house.

This home is amazing! We just returned from a week in one of the most awesome homes in one of the most scenic areas of the country! This was a perfect place for a group of 13, though we ran out of space in the fridge, but luckily we had extra ice chests! The home was so spacious, we never felt crammed together. With the extra chairs available, we were all able to gather round the dining table for nightly dinners. And might I add, the kitchen was so fun to cook in with all the counter space! The home is so well maintained and clean. The walk down to the river was even doable even for my 91 year old mother, who kept saying, "wow, what a place!" Thank you so much for bringing our family together and opening your beautiful home for all to enjoy!

Bulls Head Lodge was the perfect getaway for an awesome family trip. We have a large family - all ages including small kids and this house had a great layout for everyone to have their own space with inviting open areas both indoors and out where everyone could get together for a meal or just hang out on plush couches in front of the fire. Furnishings were exceptionally clean and super comfy. The property is ideally situated for skiing with Squaw and Alpine Meadows just minutes away, and great if you want a night on the town in Truckee or Tahoe City about 10 minutes away. Great wooded areas and river right out the door for kids to play in. Spectacular deck in the summer for bbq. Rental process was seamless.
